Arequipa and probably the deepest canyon in the world
4 days from € 499, - pp
Description
Arequipa is the second largest city in Peru and is 1024 km south of Lima. The city, founded in 1540, is one of the most attractive in the country. Its attractions include numerous churches, colonial houses and the Santa Catalina Monastery, which was founded in 1540 and opened to the public after 400 years of seclusion. Because of the many buildings made of white volcanic rock, Arequipa is also called "the white city".
The Misti, Chachani and Pichu Pichu volcanoes surround the city and provide a great backdrop. In the north of Arequipa is the spectacular Colca Valley, a picturesque Andean valley with small villages that were founded during the colonial era. This valley is home to one of the deepest canyons in the world, Colca Canyon (3.400 m), and is home to the majestic condor. The pleasant climate and altitude (2.300 m) make Arequipa the perfect place to acclimate before your trip to Cuzco or Puno.
