Our Costa Rica dream trip continues with a drive to Hotel Heliconia, one of the classic hotels in town, located in the heart of the forested mountains of Monteverde. The sprawling 10-acre property offers panoramic views of the nearby cloud forest and the Gulf of Nicoya in the distance. It is built in alpine chalet style and the solid wood combined with local elements spreads a cosy, warm ambience throughout the hotel. Curi Cancha Monteverde:

The Curi Cancha Wildlife Reserve is a wildlife sanctuary in the central mountainous region of Costa Rica that also forms part of the Arenal-Tilaran Wildlife Sanctuary. It protects the cloud forest of the Cordillera de Tilaran, located near the town of Las Juntas. This sanctuary is located about a kilometer north of Monteverde's famous Cloud Forest Reserve. The lower part is drier with fewer epiphytes, but the upper part is full of thick and impressive cloud forest. The most spectacular and magnificent birds can be discovered here, also because the protected area does not consist entirely of dense forest, but also because clearings offer the opportunity to better observe the animal world. This sanctuary is particularly suitable for the magnificent quetzal bird, the most prized bird of the cloud forest. There also find refuge the keel-billed toucan, the motmot, orange-bellied trogon and the three-toed sloth; not to forget the most diverse groups of monkeys. All in all, a wonderful place to experience nature up close, especially after dark on a guided, approx. 2-hour night hike which starts at 17.30 p.m.

Head back to San Jose to Hotel Villa Los Candiles, located in Santa Ana, a quiet and safe suburb of the capital San Jose. Corcovado National Park:

One of the national parks that is unique in terms of biodiversity. Get to know the so-called 8th wonder of the world on a boat tour. In the morning you will be picked up from your hotel and we will take a boat trip into the Panama Canal and visit Monkey Island, where we can observe monkeys wonderfully. Important note: In our experience, the classic Panama Canal tour with a visit to the locks is not recommended because draining the lock water and refilling it takes an extremely long time. It makes more sense to travel to the Panama Canal, where we can watch the huge container ships and are independent of the lock journeys.
