The Salt Cathedral was built in honor of the patron saint of the miners in a disused part of the - still active - salt mine. After the salt has already been extracted here, these are now empty shafts and rooms.
In addition to the altar, which alone weighs 22 tons, many other parts of the cathedral are made of salt. Let yourself be impressed by one of the largest religious buildings in the world.
Alternatively, you can also visit the crater lake "Laguna de Guatavia" at 3000m high, where the legend of "El Dorado" has its origin.
Legend has it that heirs to the throne were crowned here.
During these ceremonies, golden offerings were sunk. According to legend, alligators, toads, fish and monkeys made of pure gold were fished out of this lake, although the legendary treasure of "El Dorado" still cannot be found.
On a steep path you hike up to 3.000m until you reach the crater rim and see the magical lagoon deep below.

The hike takes about 1 hour.

Would you like to travel in a group of 3 or more people?
Then use our contact form so that we can make you an individual offer.
There are two important differences:
With the hotel option 3 stars is the island extension on the Rosario Islands and the boat returns to Cartagena in the afternoon (approx. 16:00 p.m.).
This means that you will not get an international connecting flight on the same day. That is why we have planned two nights on the island and an additional night in Cartagena.
The 3 star hotel is located in Bogota in the city center
With the hotel option 4 stars are 3 nights on Isla Mucura (included in the price!).
The boat transfer to Isla Mucura takes twice as long as the boat transfer to the Islas del Rosario.
With this variant with 4 star hotels, ie with Isla Mucura, you arrive in Cartagena at around 12:00 p.m. and can continue your flight in the afternoon, completely relaxed.
The 4 star hotel is located in the north of the city, so I included a transfer to the center and back to the hotel.
The prices are valid in the 2020 low season.
High season: mid-July to August and from December 20.12.20th to January 15.01.2021th, 2021, Easter XNUMX and on Colombian public holidays (surcharge for the high season on request). Tip. Over Christmas and New Years it is extremely crowded in Cartagena de Indias (partly because of national tourism), the rest of the time is low season.
All tours and transfers are led by German-speaking guides. The drivers are Spanish speaking.
Attention: The price does not include a transatlantic flight, which has to be supplemented! We would be happy to make you an offer for a brokered transatlantic flight.
