El Cantil Day 3

Day 3

Río Joví and the Mangroves of Coquí (Nuqui)

With your trip to Nuquí you are directly supporting the "Alianza de Turismo Comunitario del Chocó" and thus contributing directly to the improvement of living conditions in the remote region.

In the alliance, four Afro-Colombian communities have come together to give visitors a comprehensive insight into the world of Chocó and at the same time to ensure that the locals can better benefit from tourism.

Ecological and social sustainability are the motto here.

After breakfast, you will go by boat to the small settlement of Joví.

A guide from the municipality will be waiting for you to show you the village before you take the “Chingo”, a traditional river canoe, across the Joví River to the Chontadura waterfall.

With a little luck, monkeys or other exotic animals can be observed.

Afterwards you take the boat one bay further into the picturesque location on a natural headland between the Pacific and the mangrove forest and protect the mangrove forest behind the village from the spirited Pacific.

The best cooks in the region live in Coquí and after a delicious fresh fish dish, you can also go canoeing with a local guide through the Coquís mangroves, one of the best preserved mangroves in Colombia.

Your guide explains the complexity of this fragile ecosystem and its special features.

Back Coquí the boat will bring you back to the hotel where you can enjoy the sunset on the beach.

Again in the unique, simple Ecolodge El Cantil. (B / L / D) full board (without drinks)

El Cantil Day 4

Day 4

Thermal springs & jungle hike (Nuqui)

Today you travel by boat to the small Afro-Colombian community of Termales.

The journey takes about 20 minutes. In Termales you can get rubber boots to better enjoy the tropical rainforest.

On the way you can sometimes see various animals and the guide tells about the medicinal effects of some plants and trees.

A certain section of the trail leads through the territory of colorful tropical poison dart frogs.

After about 90 minutes you will reach the impressive waterfalls "4 Encantos" and enjoy the natural pools in the midst of tropical vegetation.

Afterwards it goes back to Termales and you relax from the hike in the hot thermal springs that gave the village its name.

Accommodation again in the Ecolodge El Cantil. (B / L / D) full board (without drinks)

After arriving in Medellín, you will immediately go on a journey of discovery through Medellín.

More than 20 years ago, Medellín was one of the most dangerous cities in the world.

In the early 90s, the hunt for Pablo Escobar, head of the Medellín cartel, peaked. But since 2002 Medellín has changed.

Smart local politicians invested in infrastructure and public education - successfully.

Today the "City of Eternal Spring" is one of the most innovative metropolises in the world.

Experience an exciting tour through the past and present of Medellín and learn more about the transformation of this fascinating metropolis.

Stroll through the hustle and bustle of downtown Medellin to the famous Plaza Botero with an exhibition by the Colombian artist Fernando Botero.

Escalators and cable cars were developed to connect the city center and the outskirts.
