Great combined north tour

Description

Trujillo

Day 1

Trujillo

Transfer from the airport to your hotel in Trujillo. From Trujillo's heyday in the 17th and 18th centuries, there are some typical houses with beautifully carved balcony cores that you can visit on a city tour. On the Plaza de Armas you can see the bronze Freedom Monument, which commemorates the independence of Peru in 1820, the Archbishop's Palace, the City Hall and beautiful colonial houses such as B. the Casa Bracamonte. Chanchan

Day 2

Huaca del Sol y de la Luna / Chan Chan / Huanchaco / Huaca del Dragón

You start the day with a visit to the fascinating sun and moon pyramids of the pre-Inca Moche culture. Not far away is Chan Chan, the impressive complex from the Chimú culture, once the largest adobe city in Peru. And although the weather severely affected the Adobe buildings, the grandiose urban architecture of that time can still be seen today.
You drive along the coastal road and reach the small fishing village of Huanchaco. Here fishermen can be observed who, according to the old Mochica tradition, tie reeds together to form so-called “reed horses” and “ride” out to sea with them. From here it goes to the Huaca del Dragón, the dragon temple behind ornate adobe walls. F / - / -

Day 3

Trujillo / Chiclayo / Museum "Royal Tombs of Sipán"

In the morning there is a 4-hour drive to Chiclayo. On a city tour you will visit the witch's market, where shamans, healers and quacks sell their healing and miracle cures. Spices and exotic fruits can be bought at the Mercado Modelo. Then it goes on to the recently completed museum "Royal Tombs of Sipán" in the form of a Moche pyramid, which exhibits many interesting archaeological finds from the region. F / - / -

Day 4

Lord of Sipán / Túcume

Today you will visit the richly equipped princely tomb of Sipán, which provides interesting information about the Moche culture. Then we continue to the pyramids of Túcume, the most gigantic monumental complex of ancient Peru. The lookout point on Cerro La Raya offers an overwhelming panoramic view of 26 adobe pyramids, platforms, walled citadels, residential areas and old cemeteries. Return to Chiclayo in the late afternoon. F / - / -

Day 5

Chiclayo / Chachapoyas

After breakfast, set out on the longest drive of the tour. You leave the desert of the coast behind you, which is first replaced by a rugged Andean landscape and then by green valleys with rice fields.
In the evening you will reach your rustic accommodation on a river near the town of Chachapoyas. F / - / -

110228 Kuelap

Day 6

Kuelap / Macro

This day is dedicated to Kuelap, the most impressive Chachapoya ruin. The once huge city, surrounded by walls up to 20 m high, sits enthroned above the Río Utcubamba on a 3.080 m high table mountain. Although Kuelap was discovered 60 years before Machu Picchu and is at least equal to the Inca complex, this fortress is little known so far.
In the afternoon, visit the Macro tomb towers. This tomb of the Chachapoyas was probably reserved for priests and the social elite. You will hike a short distance to observe the endemic green parrots of the region on the nearby cliffs. F / - / -

Day 7

revash

Today you will visit the colorful mausoleums of the Revash, which were built high on a rock wall. The tomb enchants with the construction of its multi-storey chambers, which are reminiscent of miniatures of houses and palaces, as well as the bright red decorations. Paintings can be seen on the walls of the protective rocky outcrop, which are very likely from a much older time. The afternoon is free to relax. F / - / -

Day 8

Chachapoyas / Leimebamba / Celendín

After breakfast you set off for your next stage to Leimebamba. There you will visit the recently famous Leimebamba Museum. Here you can see, among other things, the pre-Inca mummies recently discovered in the Laguna de los Cóndores, which aroused great interest on television and the press.
You continue through very varied landscapes and different ecological zones, cross two mountain passes, drive through cloud forest, past agricultural land and desert areas and finally cross the canyon of the Marañón River. Due to the dramatic changes in the landscape and the changing height differences, this trip is considered one of the most spectacular overland trips in Peru.
In the evening you will reach Celendín. F / LB / A

Cajamarca Peru

Day 9

Celendín / Cajamarca

Only a few travelers find their way to the "forgotten city of the north". The beautifully situated, art-historically very interesting mountain town used to be one of the most important places in the Inca Empire and the scene of the Spanish conquest. The Cuarto del Rescate (ransom room), built in the characteristic Inca style, testifies to this.
As part of a city tour, you will also visit the mysterious Ventanillas de Otuzco, approx. 8 km away. The numerous small caves and window-like niches were carved into the volcanic rock by the people of the Cajamarca culture around 1.400 years ago. F / - / -
