Day 1

Chiclayo / Museum

Overnight in Chiclayo. F / - / -

Day 2

Chiclayo / Chachapoyas

After breakfast, set out on the longest drive of the tour. You leave the desert of the coast behind you, which is first replaced by a rugged Andean landscape and then by green valleys with rice fields.
In the evening you will reach your rustic accommodation on a river near the town of Chachapoyas. F / - / -

Day 3

Kuelap / Macro

This day is dedicated to Kuelap, the most impressive Chachapoya ruin. The once huge city, surrounded by walls up to 20 m high, sits enthroned above the Río Utcubamba on a 3.080 m high table mountain. Although Kuelap was discovered 60 years before Machu Picchu and is at least equal to the Inca complex, this fortress is little known so far.
In the afternoon, visit the Macro tomb towers. This tomb of the Chachapoyas was probably reserved for priests and the social elite. You will hike a short distance to observe the endemic green parrots of the region on the nearby cliffs. F / - / -

Revash Peru

Day 4

revash

Today you will visit the colorful mausoleums of the Revash, which were built high on a rock wall. The tomb enchants with the construction of its multi-storey chambers, which are reminiscent of miniatures of houses and palaces, as well as the bright red decorations. Paintings can be seen on the walls of the protective rocky outcrop, which are very likely from a much older time. The afternoon is free to relax. F / - / -

Day 5

Chachapoyas / Leimebamba / Celendín

After breakfast you set off for your next stage to Leimebamba. There you will visit the recently famous Leimebamba Museum. Here you can see, among other things, the pre-Inca mummies recently discovered in the Laguna de los Cóndores, which aroused great interest on television and the press.
You continue through very varied landscapes and different ecological zones, cross two mountain passes, drive through cloud forest, past agricultural land and desert areas and finally cross the canyon of the Marañón River. Due to the dramatic changes in the landscape and the changing height differences, this trip is considered one of the most spectacular overland trips in Peru.
In the evening you will reach Celendín. F / LB / A

Day 6

Celendín / Cajamarca

Only a few travelers find their way to the "forgotten city of the north". The beautifully situated, art-historically very interesting mountain town used to be one of the most important places in the Inca Empire and the scene of the Spanish conquest. The Cuarto del Rescate (ransom room), built in the characteristic Inca style, testifies to this.
As part of a city tour, you will also visit the mysterious Ventanillas de Otuzco, approx. 8 km away. The numerous small caves and window-like niches were carved into the volcanic rock by the people of the Cajamarca culture around 1.400 years ago. F / - / -
