Description

The Cordillera Vilcamba is located northwest of Cuzco and is characterized by lonely, untouched land, from which the highest snow-capped peaks of central Peru tower up. Paths rich in vegetation lead you to the legendary Inca temple complex, which for a long time was overgrown by the jungle. This hike is especially recommended for passionate and experienced hikers.

 

Choquequirao Playa Rosalina

Day 1

Cuzco / Cachora / Sahuite / Playa Rosalina

Bus transfer from your hotel in Cuzco to Cachora. Before starting the hike, visit the Sahuite archaeological ruin. The trail then takes you down to a bridge over the Apurímac River. Your Playa Rosalina tent camp is located near this bridge. F / - / -

Day 2

Playa Rosalina / Choquequirao

Today you can expect several hours of steep ascent to the ruins. For the hardships of the ascent, you will be rewarded with the spectacular view of the deeply cut canyon and with a little luck you may even see condors. Day 3

Choquequirao

This day is dedicated to the detailed exploration of the mysterious Inca city. Choquequirao is a late Incan foundation and is considered an important Inca site. It is believed that the last Inca Tupac Amaru grew up here among Inca priests. In terms of area, this Inca city is even larger than Machu Picchu and, in addition to the artfully laid out terraces, impresses with two to three-story buildings made of slate slabs. F / LB / A

Day 4

Choquequirao / Chikisqa

After a hearty breakfast, the descent back into the valley of the Río Apurímac begins, whose cool water later invites you to take a refreshing swim. After about an hour of climbing you will reach Chikisqa, where you will set up camp for the night. F / LB / A

Day 5

Chikisqa / Cachora / Cuzco

Today there is an ascent of about six hours, which opens up impressive views of the canyon of the Apurímac River.
