From Quito you will first travel south by coach on the Panamericana, which is flanked by snow-capped volcanoes. This section of the route is also known as the "avenue of volcanoes" and impresses with its varied and exotic mountain landscape. Visit a colorful Indian market in Latacunga or Saquisilí (depending on the day of the week). After a short visit to the town of Baños * followed by lunch, the journey continues to Riobamba. Day 2 Riobamba / Alausí / Quito
Around 5:30 am, breakfast and then transfer to the train station in Riobamba. At sunrise, the spectacular Andes train journey begins in your own rail train or in a special wagon that is attached to the regular train. A little to the south you reach the highest point at Palmira at an altitude of 3.240 m before the Andean descent begins. You finally reach the delightful small town of Alausí via the new line that was built to bypass the huge landslide of 1981.

Arrival at the famous switchbacks in the late morning. In front of you rises a famous ledge, which is called "devil's nose" because of its resemblance to a hideous face. In the afternoon the train will return to Alausí, where you will change from the train to the coach that will take you back to Quito. You will arrive there around 18:00 p.m. Transfer to the hotel.
