EntryA stamp for Panama must be placed in your passport, which must be valid for at least 6 months after leaving Panama. We then arrive in Almirante (Panama), the capital of the Almirante District in the Bocas del Toro Province in the Republic of Panama. Its name is Spanish for Admiral. Almirante was built in the early 20th century by the United Fruit Company as a port for its banana exports. The area consisted of landfills on swamps; it housed the UFCO headquarters until 1970. The first settlers were mainly Black Jamaicans and the Lesser Antilles, who worked on the banana plantations in the early 1900s. Due to the importance of the port of Almirante, it also attracted Chinese, Hindu, and Jewish merchants in the early 1950s. Since 2002, there has been a massive migration of Chinese to the entire province, so it is normal to see them in their shops. Almirante was hit by a strong earthquake on April 22, 1991, and most of the wooden houses were destroyed, so the government decided to build new houses on the outskirts of the city.

Important: There is no decent hotel in Almirante, so we stay at the rustic, simple Bocas Ridge Hotel, which is located on a mountain just outside of Almirante.

At Punta Caracol Acqua-Lodge, we place great importance on the environment and the well-being of the community and are therefore pioneers in sustainable management in both areas. Here, traditional, artistic building techniques are combined with state-of-the-art systems for sustainable energy generation. These include solar panels in the restaurant and all suites, gas cooling in all refrigerators and freezers, and solar-powered wastewater treatment with state-of-the-art aerobic and anaerobic systems for micro-treatment and wastewater treatment. The Punta Caracol Acqua Lodge uses a waste management policy that includes separating waste materials such as glass, aluminum, batteries, plastics, and paper into separate containers for special treatment and recycling. Organic waste is collected in special bins to produce natural compost. The bath products are just as environmentally friendly as the soaps used in our laundry. Upon arrival, our guests receive a brief introduction to the ins and outs of an eco-friendly Acqua Lodge and some tips that can help them have an enriching experience while contributing to protecting the planet. The complete trip Costa Rica & Panama costs pp 22.099,00 euros in a double room or double cabin for a journey duration of 40 days!

If the Panama Part not is desired, the Costa Rica part costs from 05.03. - 29.03.2026
pp 13.998,00 euros in a double room or double cabin for a journey duration of 25 days!

This price is valid for a small group with a minimum of 2 people (already reached!) in a double room plus tour accompaniment from Christian Frobeen from San José to Panama City!

Included: Tour as advertised, plus specified meals, double or twin cabin accommodation, German-speaking tour by Mr. Frobeen, with a local English-speaking guide available if requested, transportation and transfers, connecting flight from San José to Panama City in economy class, flight Panama City-San Blas-Panama City in a propeller plane, payment guarantee certificate from R+V.

Not included: Meals not mentioned above, airport tax on San Blas for the round-trip flight currently $24 per person ($12 per person for the outbound flight and $12 per person for the return flight, payable at the airport; amounts subject to change), beverages, any local taxes (if applicable), tips, and the transatlantic flight. We would be happy to provide you with a quote for economy or business class airfare on the transatlantic flight.

Note: If a hotel cannot be confirmed, we will book an alternative hotel in consultation with you. The hotels have been carefully selected. Costa Rica and Panama are emerging economies, and the standard of the hotels and hostels ranges from basic to comfortable. The San Blas Islands have the status of a developing country with very basic conditions but beautiful natural beauty.

Our terms and conditions apply, see https://www.frobeen.de/agb

Note: If the hotel is fully booked, an equivalent hotel will be booked. If a sailing catamaran is not available at short notice, an equivalent sailing catamaran will be booked. The allocation to the sailing catamarans takes place after receipt of the booking. The size of the catamaran or the two catamarans depends on the number of bookings. Due to the low land weight on Isla Corazón, the group will probably have to be split into two propeller planes. Maximum luggage weight for propeller plane flights pp 12 kilos = 26,5 pounds (the rest of the luggage must be deposited at the hotel in Panama City). The propeller planes are simple and have reliable pilots.

Panama Flags 1

General information about Panama:

Capital: Panama City
Population: 4 Million
Surface: 75.517 km² (slightly larger than Bavaria)
national holiday: 3 November (Independence from Greater Colombia 1903)
Geography: Panama is located between Costa Rica and Colombia and forms the link between Central and South America. The narrow isthmus has long stretches of coastline on both the Pacific and Caribbean Seas.

Highlights:
PANAMA CANAL / COLONIAL OLD TOWN / PACIFIC AND CARIBBEAN BEACHES / TROPICAL RAINFOREST

Good to know:

MONEY:
The official currency in Panama is the US dollar, but there is also the local currency "Balboa", which is only available in coin form and is always a 1:1 dollar equivalent.

ELECTRICITY:
Also the sockets in Panama are the same as in the USA, the voltage is different than in Germany, e.g. B. at 110V, check the information on your devices.

CLIMATE:
With the exception of particularly high-altitude regions, Panama is tropically warm and humid year-round. The rainy season lasts from around the end of April to November, while the dry season prevails in the main travel season between December and March/mid-April. In the rainy season it rains between one and three hours a day on average and a visit is just as possible as in the dry season.

LANGUAGE:
The main language spoken in Panama is Spanish. In general, you can get along well with English in Panama City or tourist strongholds such as Bocas del Toro, but it is advisable to know at least a few sentences in Spanish, especially since this is very much appreciated by the Panamanians.

ENTRY:
Visa-free entry to Panama is possible with an American, British, German, Austrian or Swiss passport if you intend to stay for 90 days or less. As a rule, a valid exit ticket must be presented upon entry.

VACCINATIONS:

It is recommended that you book approximately 8 weeks in advance of your travel date and contact your GP or other appropriate facility to inquire about recommended vaccinations. Information on the subject of travel vaccinations can also be found on the website of the Federal Ministry of Health.

Antarctica, pilot trip in January 2027!

We are planning a so-called "pilot trip" to Antarctica for the beginning/middle of January 2027, which Mr. Frobeen will accompany himself. The flight will be from/to Punta Arenas (Chile) to Antarctica and we will take a fantastic 8-day/7-night cruise on an Antarctic ship towards the South Pole. We would be happy to plan a pre- or post-program for you, e.g. in Chile (prices/information on request).

Tip: Mr. Frobeen recently traveled on an inspection trip in the south of Chile to Cape Horn and experienced very strong waves in the Drake Passage. The large cruise ships do have stabilizers, but even these do not prevent strong rocking. Therefore, it makes sense to cross the stormy Drake Passage from/to Punta Arenas (Chile) by plane and from/to Antarctica to book a small (maximum 73 participants!), compact ship, where the service is much more personal than on a large ship. Mr. Frobeen therefore recommends the very modern, new ship Magellan Explorer or the lower priced ship Ocean Nova, see below!

Polar Circle Air Cruise small

Antarctic air cruise 8 days/7 nights from/to Punta Arenas
Estimated route (short-term changes, e.g. due to changed climatic conditions, are possible at any time):

Day 1: Start of the Air Cruise (Punta Arenas)
A representative from our local partners will greet you before 14:00 PM in Punta Arenas, Chile. Transfer to your hotel. Visit to the Explorer House and take part in a mandatory briefing which includes important information about your air cruise and explains the essential guidelines for visitors to Antarctica. A welcome dinner will introduce you to local gastronomy while meeting other adventurers from around the world (local English speaking guides as international group).

Hotel in Punta Arenas

Hotel rooms in Punta Arenas

Day 2: Scheduled flight from Punta Arenas to Antarctica
The arranged two-hour flight takes you from Punta Arenas to King George Island in the South Shetland Islands. Your Antarctic adventure begins when you step off the plane and feel the clear Antarctic air for the first time.

Wine on board the Magellan Explorer

You then hike approximately 2 km (1,25 miles) past Chile's Frei Station and Russia's Bellingshausen Station to reach the coast and board a Zodiac that will take you to your boutique expedition ship Magellan Explorer brings.

Day 3 - 8: Exploring Antarctica
The expedition travels along ice-filled fjords and between spectacular icebergs while enjoying the company of seabirds, penguins, seals and whales.

Whales in Antarctica

Whale watching

They visit the South Shetland Islands and the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula and use the Zodiac very often. Hike in small groups to extraordinary places and take part in Zodiac explorations in otherwise inaccessible areas. Our experienced polar guides share their passion for Antarctica through an engaging program, illustrated presentations and take you ashore to provide engaging explanations of wildlife, history and the many wonders of the Antarctic environment. Enjoy the spectacular view from the glass-enclosed lounge while sipping a drink and reveling in your daily adventures with fellow international guests from around the world.

Lodge on the Magellan Explorer

The goal of the expedition is to go far south to reach the Arctic Circle. The expedition team plans the specific itinerary based on the local, current, especially climatic conditions, which can change at any time, and uses the constantly changing possibilities provided by nature. Flexibility is the key to an unforgettable trip. Your dream trip includes visits to sites in the South Shetland Islands, the Antarctic Sound, the Gerlache and Penola Straits and the Crystal Sound. Each voyage is unique and designed to give you the best possible overview of the diverse Antarctic environment.
